Claire Kremen, President’s Excellence Chair in Biodiversity and Professor of Conservation Biology, University of British Columbia

An ecologist and applied conservation biologist, Kremen's research focuses on reconciling agricultural production with biodiversity conservation. Kremen’s work examines how agricultural diversification supports wild species, enhances ecosystem services such as pollination and pest control, and improves the sustainability and profitability of farming systems. She previously held faculty positions at Princeton University and University of California, Berkeley, where she founded the Center for Diversified Farming Systems and helped lead the Berkeley Food Institute. A 2007 MacArthur Fellows Program recipient and winner of the 2020 Volvo Environment Prize, Kremen is widely recognized for advancing science-based solutions that support both biodiversity and sustainable food systems.

About the Series:

The Tracy and Ruth Storer Lectureship in the Life Sciences is the most prestigious of the endowed seminars at UC Davis. Established in 1960, the Storer Endowment makes it is possible to invite distinguished biological scientists to campus to present two lectures and meet with faculty members and graduate students in their field of interest. The series is presented by the UC Davis College of Biological Sciences.
