Michael P Rout, George and Ruby deStevens Professor, Head of the Laboratory of Cellular and Structural Biology, The Rockefeller University
Michael P. Rout is the George and Ruby deStevens Professor and Head of the Laboratory of Cellular and Structural Biology at The Rockefeller University and Director of the National Center for Dynamic Interactome Research. A molecular and cellular biologist, Rout is internationally recognized for his pioneering work on the nuclear pore complex (NPC), the massive protein assembly that regulates transport between the nucleus and cytoplasm and controls how DNA communicates with the rest of the cell. His research has defined the NPC’s molecular composition, three-dimensional architecture, transport mechanisms, and evolutionary origins, and has clarified how defects in nuclear transport contribute to human disease. In addition, his laboratory develops integrative structural and proteomic approaches to map dynamic protein interactions in cells, including interactomic technologies and nanobody platforms to study complex biological systems and disease processes.

About the Series:
The Tracy and Ruth Storer Lectureship in the Life Sciences is the most prestigious of the endowed seminars at UC Davis. Established in 1960, the Storer Endowment makes it is possible to invite distinguished biological scientists to campus to present two lectures and meet with faculty members and graduate students in their field of interest. The series is presented by the UC Davis College of Biological Sciences.
