My approach to advising revolves around each individual student. No two students have the same background, experiences, support, or goals. Because of this, no two advising sessions can be treated the same. In each advising interaction I strive to answer as many questions as I can, hopefully all, and get to know each student and how I can best support them. My goal is to meet each student where they are, empowering them with the knowledge and support they need to successfully navigate their academic career.
I will provide information on course selection, degree requirements, and resources (AATC, URC, HPA, ICC, etc.). I will also answer student’s questions, listen to, and assist in creating a plan for concerns, help prepare for short- and long-term goals, and do my best to keep things lighthearted. My expectations for students and myself are being prepared for meetings, coming in with a collaborative mindset, and be willing to put in the work needed to be successful.
We all encounter times of difficulty and stress in our journey to graduation and beyond. These challenges can feel overwhelming at times but with the right support and resources we can overcome them and thrive. I am here as a resource for not only academics but also other areas of concern. To be at our best we all need support and getting that support early on is imperative. It is always easier to get ahead or stay current than it is to catch up. I want to support students in creating their own support network so we can address concerns as soon as they appear to negate their impact on a student’s performance and wellbeing.
I look forward to meeting with you and would enjoy the opportunity to assist you in any way that I can.
